Sample Issue · Issue 142
Here's what lands every Thursday morning.
“It reads less like a newsletter and more like a zine slid under my door. Sharp, specific, and weirdly addictive.”
A typical Thursday issue is roughly 1,400 words, four original images, and three links. It opens with the editor's note, drops into the lead feature, then walks through the rest of the week's lineup. Below is the actual structure of Issue 142 — the one that prompted this page.
-
01
Lead Feature — “I Was the Quiet One, Then I Wasn't”
A 1,800-word interview with Tova Ng, the Vancouver-based stylist who dressed three of last year's most-quoted alt-girl campaigns. Tova on refusing to credit-list her team, on getting fired from a flagship brand for posting a topless mirror selfie, and on building a 14-person studio out of a converted laundromat. Photographed by Maren Calderon in a single afternoon, four rolls of Tri-X.

02
The Nasty List — Q1 Index Drop
Our quarterly culture index. This quarter: the 22 emerging streetwear labels our editors actually bought from, ranked by re-wear rate. Includes the long-running Body Autonomy Dispatch sub-section, which tracks how the manifesto is being adopted across 60+ creator collectives worldwide.
-
03
Style Drop — Notorious Studios, Lookbook 04
An exclusive 12-page lookbook shot in a condemned motel outside Joshua Tree. We commissioned the shoot, edited the sequence, and broke it to subscribers 72 hours before the brand posted anywhere else. Three looks sold out within the morning.
-
04
Editor's Pick — The Links
Three to five links the staff actually clicked that week. Recent picks have included a 40-minute documentary on Detroit's last independent print shop, a Substack from a former club kid in Berlin, and the only honest review we've read of the new Marc Jacobs campaign. No SEO bait, no affiliate stuffing.
FAQ
The boring questions, answered.
If a question isn't here, email [email protected] and we'll add it.
- Is The Nasty Dispatch free?
- Yes. The newsletter has been free since Issue 1 in 2019 and will stay free. The publication is supported by a small number of brand partnerships, all clearly marked with an “In partnership with” line — never disguised as editorial.
- How often does it arrive, and when?
- One issue, every Thursday morning, US time. Issues run 1,200 to 1,800 words and take about six minutes to read. We don't run a daily edition, and we don't do “bonus” rounds — if you signed up for Thursdays, that's all you get.
- Who actually writes it?
- The core editorial team — 18 full-time editors based in Austin, London, and Brooklyn — plus rotating bylines from our 412 verified freelance contributors. Every issue lists its writer and photographer. The masthead is public and updated monthly.
- How do I unsubscribe, and what happens to my data?
- One click, at the bottom of every issue. No “are you sure” survey, no downgrade funnel. Your email is stored with our newsletter vendor (currently Kit) under their GDPR-compliant terms and is never sold, traded, or shared with sponsors. Full privacy policy is linked in the footer of every send.
